Depict! Project Production Diary

4th October 2012
Today we got into our groups in hope of sorting out an idea, Unfortunately no ideas have been fully fledged yet so, up to now our snippets of ideas include: a simple comedy sketch including zombies and marijuana users. Although we masy use an extract from Edgar Allan Poe's 'The Raven' voiced by a narrator.
5th October
Today, after much discussion, we finalised the Idea, Basically in a nut shell its a comedy-horror short playing with the upcoming event of halloween and the paranoia after watching scary movies combined. The film will depict a person getting chased by a zombie incorperating some flips and tricks. We decided to keep the Raven Narration at the start. On monday we will deicide on location and soundtrack.
8th October
Today we learnt the conventions of a storyboard, ie. like what to do and how to portray different planned movements.Following this we created a shot list of about 23 shots in total and planned what each of the shots is supposed to display (basically wrote the story up). We began doing some storyboard work of our own which hopefully we can progress next lesson.
9th October
Today we finished off the story boards including what sound effects and scores will be used. All camera shots and movements have been decided along with a rough sketch of what the scene hopefully will look like. Also We have designed the working title of our short, 'Trick or Trick' and the logo to go at the start!
11th October
Today we done a safety assessment highlighting the areas in which things could potentially go wrong. Also we done a sheet on the BBFC and BECTU finding out about the organisations and what role they play in the media.
12th October
Today we done a recce of the area in which we are going to film (Connor's house) and mentally mapped out which scenes are going to be shot where. Also we planned the set so on monday, we could just set up straight away and know where all equipment should be set.
15th, 16th October
Both on the 15th and 16th we spent our time filming each shot. The majority of the hours was spent on making latex scars and cuts on Jack to make him more scary as a zombie. The 15th we filmed half of the short and unfortunately spent around half an hour setting up the TV movie equipment. 16th consisted of us re filming shots that we didn't like or that wern't up to scratch to produce the best film possible. Some shots were re-filmed due to continuity purposes. Luckily all shots were filmed during the deadline of wednesday so we will begin editing tomorrow.
17th October
Wednesday and like i said in my last post we began editing. Due to teamwork of editing skills the shot order and length were sorted out pretty quickly and all we to do was maintain continuity with a nice flow of both shots and transitions. After rendering everything worked out and looked good so tomorrow hopefully we can incorperate the music.
18th, 19th October
Over the course of the two days we managed to make a musical score (soundtrack) for 'trick or trick' and add the title and credits to our short. Everything has been finalised and rendered to reveal the final piece. 18th we made the score with a incidental dramatic horror music to fit the the comedy horror genre.
